Vacation Outfits That Go From Day to Night

When I’m getting ready for a trip, I usually start with a moodboard. I love pulling together a few images that capture the overall feel I’m going for, whether that means breezy coastal outfits, polished city looks, or relaxed pieces that still feel elevated. It helps me visualize how everything will come together before I even start packing, and it makes planning outfits part of the fun.

From there, I focus on bringing pieces that can be styled in multiple ways. A few dresses, versatile skirts, easy tops, and accessories that work with several outfits can go surprisingly far. Mixing and matching becomes effortless, and it also leaves room in my suitcase for anything special I might find along the way.

Packing this way keeps things simple without sacrificing style. Instead of overthinking what to wear each day, I know the pieces I’ve brought already work together, which makes getting dressed while traveling feel easy and enjoyable. If you’re looking for a little outfit inspiration for your next getaway, I also put together a collection of pieces I love on ShopMy. Below, I’m sharing four vacation looks I can't wait to recreate.

Lightweight fabrics and easy silhouettes are usually the foundation of my travel wardrobe. I gravitate toward natural, breathable materials like linen, cotton, and light silk because they keep me comfortable in warm weather and don’t feel restrictive while exploring. One combination I reach for often is a simple cami paired with a flowing maxi skirt and kitten heels. It’s the kind of base outfit that can easily be styled differently throughout the day. In the morning, it feels breezy and relaxed for walking around a new city or stopping for coffee. Later on, a quick refresh with a structured bag, a delicate layer of jewelry, or a change of shoes can make the look feel more polished for a casual dinner.

A midi dress is another piece I almost always pack. It’s the kind of item that requires very little styling while still looking thoughtful. Paired with ballet flats and a delicate necklace, it works beautifully for daytime plans like visiting local shops, strolling through outdoor markets, or meeting friends for lunch. I actually wore this one during my trip to the South of France last summer, and it turned out to be one of the most useful pieces I brought. It was comfortable enough for a long afternoon of exploring with family, but still felt polished when we stopped for lunch along the way.

A maxi dress is another item that always makes its way into my suitcase when I'm going on vacation. I love how the long hemline adds a touch of drama, making it perfect for moments when I want to feel a little more dressed up. I usually pair it with minimalist jewelry and heels, saving it for a fancier dinner or an evening out during vacation.

Layering pieces also makes a huge difference when packing light. Even in warm destinations, having one structured layer can completely change the feel of an outfit. A sculpted denim jacket is one of my favorite options because it adds a relaxed element while still giving shape to the look. I loved pairing it with a crop top and a maxi skirt, then finishing the outfit with a shoulder bag and kitten heels on one of my last trips.

At the end of the day, the best travel outfits are the ones that allow you to enjoy the moment you’re in. Whether that’s wandering through a new city, sharing a long lunch with friends, or heading out for dinner after a full day of exploring, having pieces that feel comfortable and polished makes the entire experience that much better.
